We asked past participants from our Rising Earth Immersion to share about their experience as well as what they’re up to now. Quadirah is now living in China as an ESL teacher for EnglishFirst as well as using YouTube to promote mental health and holistic care, specifically for young people. Here are a few words from Quadirah.

Tell us about a plant or being you connect with at the Eco Institute:

I felt very connected to one of the co-founders, Megan Toben. She embraced and welcomed me in from day one. I really respect and admire her for always challenging the current paradigm of the world and looking for ways improve it.

What was your favorite routine or ritual you developed at the Eco Institute?

My favorite ritual I developed at the Eco-Institute is sitting in meditation and listening to the nature. I love counting how many different sounds I can hear.

What is one thing you learned about living in community while there?

One thing I learned about community living is that the energy you invest into building relationships is exactly what you get out of it.

What are you up to now?

Right now, I am living in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, China. I work as an ESL teacher for EnglishFirst. It is such a great experience because of the new cultures I am encountering and how much I am growing as an individual.

How can the community support you?

I try to stay active on my social media platforms but at times I don’t post that often. You can support me on Instagram: @Livelikequaddi where I give a glimpse into my adventures. I have Youtube channel dedicated towards mental health and holistic care: LiveLikeQuaddi.

It is geared to children transitioning into their teenage years, to bring awareness about issues that may have caused them to feel isolated and/or they are not comfortable sharing with others. I aim to show them that they are not alone in their experiences and share my insight now that I am reflecting on it later in life.

What is something that is inspiring you right now?

Right now, I am extremely motivated on my fitness journey. It is something that I have always struggled with because of lack of discipline. While being in China, it was my top priority to improve my discipline in all areas of my life. I started with small disciplines, and I am very proud of my efforts so far. What inspires me is seeing people especially young black woman balancing work, health/fitness and their personal lives. I follow many woman on my social media that show me it is very possible. It is so motivating and empowering to be a part of such a community via the internet.
