Meet Psalms: Rising Earth CORE facilitator, Fall 2020

“Peace and greetings, Earth Justice warriors,”

My name is Psalms White, and in lieu of the amazing Core Facilitator I had during my time in the Rising Earth Immersion Program this past summer, I’ve chosen to borrow their perfect greeting. It was divine direction that brought me to this revolutionary family, and I’m honored to now serve in a leadership role with this program that has already brought me so much healing and understanding.

I’m a native of Charlotte, North Carolina and lived there all my life until attending school in Chapel Hill these past 5 years. Since high school and throughout college, I have sought to educate myself and others about Black history as American history, the global culture of white supremacy, and the impact of power structures on how we view the world. As an undergraduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill, I founded Beta Nu Theta Service Fraternity—a registered campus organization tasked with providing a loving and supportive community for black students with a passion for mental health, social justice, and advocacy work. As President, I coordinated many campus events centered around minority mental health and wellness, activism, feminism, faith, and community service. This past year, as I transitioned and passed along my role and responsibilities as BNT President, I remained passionate and active in similar work through my Miss UNC service project. This project consisted of a series of workshops dedicated to helping students realize how they can be of service to the world through their gifts, experiences, education, and growing consciousness of how we interact with systems of power. The curriculum that I have developed in my time of doing this work is very near and dear to my heart, and it is an honor to be able to share and further develop it through the role of your Core Facilitator.

As stated earlier, this position being brought to my awareness seems to be divine intervention—as the art and activism focus of the program matches so perfectly with my passions and background, and is especially necessary during this time of mass awakening and revolution. The space this facility has already provided me for learning, community, spiritual and personal growth is one that I have been longing for and that was much needed for me to be able to step into this leadership position.

I’m so excited to continue this journey of collective liberation, and I look forward to joining you all as we work in love and power!
